THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF SENSORS: INTERNAL SENSORS AND EXTERNAL SENSORS.
WHY NOT EXTERNAL VALVE CAP SENSOR? | WHY INTERNAL SENSORS? |
In today's market, in external sensors, Valve Cap Sensors are the most common type. Pro is it's easy to install. But it also has a few Cons.
1.
First and the most important, being installed outside, External Valve Cap Sensor DOES NOT monitor tire temperature inside tire accurately.
2.
External Sensors are installed outside wheel assembly. Generally speaking it should not be installed on driving axle wheels since it sticks out of wheel assembly and is easily to be damaged to cause air leak and tire failure.
3.
Since it's installed on the outside of the wheel assembly, it's easy to be stolen and easy to be knocked off; it usually will not last for entire product life; Hidden cost of having to purchase more sensors in the life of the TPMS kit.
4.
Impairs Valve Core and leads to improper valve performance. Not suggested for safe tire maintenance.
5.
Most Valve Cap Sensor has to be removed when inflating the tire. To prevent potential theft issue, most Valve Cap Sensors have different kind of locking system so they cannot be removed easily by someone else. But when your tire is low and you really need to inflate the tire, now you become the one who has been prevented from removing the sensor. This is especially the case if you happen to misplace that small little special Allen head wrench which is only provided by your vendor and could not be found anywhere else. Even you finally successfully removed all the Valve Cap Sensors and inflate your tire -- Congratuations! --- try to see if you can always remember to put every single one back and not forget any of them!

Sure it takes more effort to install it. But you are completely worry-free in its whole life cycle. Its benefits far out-weight the inconvenience during the installation.
1.
Sensor installed inside the tire where the air pressure and temperature are intended to be checked. This is the only way to guarantee the accuracy of the data.
2.
Internal Sensors are installed inside wheel assembly. Good for all wheels;
3.
It will not be stolen, will not be knocked off, will last for the whole product life (5-7 years);
4.
Does not affect tire valve stems.
5.
Easy to inflate the tire.
